New feature, possibly?

Some of you may not like the "Make a new friend" feature, and then, some of you might like it.
I myself find it amusing sometimes.

Maybe, in addition to the Make a New Friend feature, or as part thereof, what about the possibility of listing people's names as possible friends, by using additional info such as hobbies, interests, etc. that other users share with you.
Example:
I like chocolate and sports.
User A likes chocolate to, and therefore user a and I have something in common.
User B likes sports, so user b and I have something in common.
User C likes both chocolate and sports, so, it's very likely that user C and I might have something in common.
As a result thereof, user C ends up on my list of recommended friends, together with the reason displayed next to his/her name, "User C also has sports and chocolate listed as part of his/her interests".

What do you all think of this?
To the cl's and admins, how workable is such a feature?

Thanks for reading.

An interesting idea. I've seen this kind of thing made to work a couple ways. Either you have a list of interests separate from the main profile itself, or surround the names of actual interests with symbolls such as [[ ]]. I think it could be cool though.

Cool idea!! I've been thinking we should do this for a while now. It would probably (or at least hopefully) lead to mure substantial friendships and make for some good conversation.

I actually would really like this too. I supposed, the way you can do it, is as a part of the profile feature. You could include a series of checkboxes or something, with a lot of the most general favorite interests...it's definitely something that we could brainstorm a bit.

Good idea.

How about make an enemy. The people who are ignored by the people you send quick notes to or who send you quick notes.

<grin>.

Thats a cool idea, but i don't see it working any of the ways that you said it.
The way i see it working is you write your normal profile, and in there you have your hobies, where ever you wanna put them.
The new script would then scan profiles for ewords that also come up in your profile, and different vairients of those words.
For example, in my profile i say that i like computers and i play the piano. The script would then search profiles for the words computer, computers, pc, internet, computing etc etc and gimme the results.
Some words would have to be egnored, for example and, the, hi etc.

This is pretty intriguing. Keep the ideas coming.

yep I think it's a good idea. I must admit haven't checked the page out in a while though so who knows what possible friends I've missed out on Lol

Wow I like these ideas.
Maybe if in our profile we could have a series of check boxes almost like on MySpace, but with the things that we check such as the type of music, to favorite foods, then we could find out the people who are the closest to our profile.

hum, the check boxes sounds like a really good idea, sounds like it would be alot of fun, and better maches.
but i'm clueless when it comes to programming or writing commands, *grins so what do i know.

I like the idea of checkboxes in the profiles, but not scanning for words. Suppose you said "I hate Ohio in your profile", then you'd have BuckEyed Fan as a friend, and you two could argue all the time.

I like the check box idea as well.

Sounds like the blind matchmaker, but I do like the idea. A possible idea is to make a multable choice kind of questionare thing. I am sure you could have some fun with some of the questions. start out with maybe 10 questions but leave room so you could add to it later if you wish.

Very interesting idea.
Sounds good.

Checkboxes or a multiple-choice quiz would work great from the programming standpoint. This is because there are so many different values for the "type" attribute of the <input> tag. Due to the nature of HTML, you can always add more stuff!
